Company history
Melvin and Dineshree (Dean) Hoods started MJD Risk Insurance Brokers CC (MJD) in July 2005 on the back of over 47 years combined corporate working experience. During this period they accumulated a large contact network base consisting of senior insurance officials, representatives, underwriting clerks and claims negotiators as well as industry service providers such as motor assessors, claims investigators, car rental agencies, vehicle tracking companies, affinity product suppliers, motor body repairers and other miscellaneous repairers. They therefore realised the viability during the former part of 2005 of harnessing this experience and networking capability into a short-term insurance brokerage of their own with the emphasis on a personalised customer service. During the extensive feasibility study which was undertaken prior to the establishment of MJD, it became apparent that there was a gap in the market for an experienced black independent short-term broking company who provide SMME’s and private individuals with personal, professional and face-to-face service. From experience in the corporate broking environment it was clear that the Corporate Company’s internal and mechanised processes and structures severely hampered personal customer relationships. Their customer’s are ultimately serviced by national and centralised call centres when purchasing their insurance products. In view of the foregoing it made economic sense to fill this huge gap in the market and hence MJD Risk Insurance Brokers CC was registered with CIPRO on 11 July 2005.
